Kalliopi, the street of freaks

National Theatre - Experimental Stage (May - June 2019) / Choros Theatre (November 2019 - January 2020)

There is a street in Athens which, when you go to sleep, dreams of you. The moment you fall asleep, dreams of you getting off at its first train station -or the second one, depending which way you want to walk. Then you pass by its shops and stores without being aware of the hidden altars and temples. (The street smiles and you change side in your sleep). You are crossing with strangers and suddenly you realize that you know their names, their origin, the day they died and the height of those they desperately loved.

“Kalliopi, the street of freaks” is a theatrical performance inspired by and dedicated to Athinas street, one of the most significant downtown streets of Athens. Athinas street, throughout these almost 200 years of contemporary greek history, has been always accommodating all the historical, cultural and social aspects of the greek nation. A multicultural, vivid and erotic street which mysteriously reconciles the most contradictory elements.
